The Rainier Beach Vikings dreams of winning a WIAA 3A football champion came to an end Friday night, as they Vikings were ousted from the state playoffs by number one seed Bellevue, 56-22.
Bellevue would take a 21-0 lead in the first half, as the Viking had no answer to the Wolverines ‘Wing-T” rushing attack.
Rainier Beach finally got in the scoreboard as running back Myles Damon scored on two-yard touchdown run to make the score 21-7.
However, an interception late it the second quarter led to another Bellevue touchdown with 21 seconds left in the half, and the Wolverines took at 28-7 lead into the half.
Rainier Beach would close the gap in the second quarter, as quarterback Chance Guadiz connected with receiver Jaelin Green on a 34-yard pass to set-up a two-yard touchdown run by Scot’Tre Humphrey. Humphrey would also score on a two-point conversion to cut the Bellevue lead to 6, at 21-15.
Bellevue would increase their lead to 42-15 before Guadiz would throw at 76-yard touchdown pass to Ellis Branca, to make the score 42-22 in favor of the Wolverines.
Bellevue would close out the game with two more touchdowns and walk away with a 56-22 victory over Rainier Beach to advance to a semifinal matchup against Marysville-Pilchuk.
Rainier Beach’s Guadiz would finish the game completing 23 of 35 passes for 259 yards and one touchdown. Bellevue running back would finish the game with 32 carries for 197 yards and five touchdowns on the night, as the Wolverines would rack up over 400 yards rushing.
