“The defense played one heck of a game,” Coach Gant remarked. “Both Kamoto and Dowlen had multiple tackles in the backfield for losses at the right times, especially when Benson was moving the ball.”
The second half saw Dowlen and the offense put the game out of reach with yet another big play. With just seconds left in the third quarter, Dowlen broke away for a 66-yard touchdown run, his third score of the game. Kamoto added a two-point conversion, bringing the score to 20-0 and all but sealing the game for the Rangers. The Rangers’ offense continued to execute, with Kamoto, Burrell-Lofton, and Lonzell King all combining for solid runs that maintained control of the clock and wore down the Bruins’ defense. Dowlen led the offense with 183 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just five carries, while Kamoto’s two-point conversion and key defensive plays proved crucial to the team’s success.
Reflecting on the game, Coach Gant expressed pride in his team’s effort and focus, particularly on the defensive side.
“It feels really good to see that the hard work paid off as we stay undefeated going to the championship game,” he said. “Benson came to play and tested the weak spots of our team, but Otulau Kamoto and Dondre Dowlen weren’t having it. Several times, Aubre ‘A Train’ Jones had to chase down their running back to keep him away from the end zone. We also had solid defense from Malachi Finau, DaVinci Jenkins, and Li’nell Secrest. They all came through when we needed it.”
On the offensive side, Coach Gant praised the chemistry and persistence of his core running backs.
“Dondre was outstanding again,” he added, “but we had Devaughn Burrell-Lofton and Lonzell King pushing hard all game. With Kamoto now playing a key role, it’s like we have four horsemen out there on offense.” Renton’s balanced attack and rock-solid defense have been instrumental in their undefeated run this season, and Coach Gant believes the team has everything it takes to succeed in the championship game. “I believe we’re ready for this championship game,” he said confidently.
With this decisive win, the Rangers advance to the 6U championship game, set for next Sunday at Renton Stadium, where they’ll look to finish the season as league champions.
