6U Renton Rangers Shine Under Monday Night Lights As They Defeat 5 Star 25-12
In a highly anticipated game by both teams, the Renton Rangers 6U team squared off with the 5 Star Cougars under the bright lights of Monday night. Defensively, the Lil’ Rangers, led by Laus Kamoto and Devaughn Burrell-Lofton, wore their big-boy shoulder pads with passion and pride as they came out on fire, stopping 5 Star on their first possession of the game.
Offensively, the Lil’ Rangers started off just as strong, as running back Lonzell “L-3” King claimed the first highlight of the night on a 30-yard touchdown run to put Renton up 6-0.
Bending but refusing to break, the Rangers’ defense recovered a fumble on their 1-yard line on a game-changing goal line stance. From there, the opportunistic Rangers handed the ball off to Dondre “Special Delivery” Dowlen, who scored on a 99-yard touchdown run to make the game 13-0.
Down but not out, the Cougars would fight back, as their quarterback scored on a 35-yard QB sneak to make the score 13-6. Renton would get the ball back and once again look in the direction of Dowlen, who scored his second touchdown of the game on a 65-yard run to make the score 19-6 in favor of the Rangers at the half.
After regrouping at halftime, 5 Star was determined not to go down without a fight, as they scored their second touchdown of the night, bringing the score to 19-12. But the celebration was short-lived, as Lonzell “L-3” King scored his second touchdown of the game on a 45-yard touchdown run for the final score of the game. Final score: Renton 25, 5 Star 12.
Renton’s Laus Kamoto played like a beast on defense, and Devaughn Burrell-Lofton made multiple great hits on defense.
Benson Bruins 12, CD Panthers 6
In a back-and-forth game, The Benson Bruins started the game with a big run by Malakai Armstead. The CD Panthers would strike first on 60-yard touchdown run by Travon Martin Jr. to set them up 6-0 over the Bruins in the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter, the Bruins would force a fumble which was recovered by Armstead as he would run it back for a 10-yard touchdown to make the game 6-6.
During the 3rd and 4th quarter players Raynen #10 and Julieyon #20 had big plays to move the Bruins up and down the field but to no avail, as the game went into overtime. Neither team scored on their first possession of overtime but on the second drive, Armstead stripped the CD Panthers’ quarterback and scampered for a 90 yard touchdown cementing the win for the Bruins.
HEIR ODD (6U), NW Grizzlies
Heir 6U won the game by forfeit against the NW Grizzlies.
