Report: Office Of Law Enforcement Oversight Certified 99 Complaint Investigations

The King County Office of Law Enforcement Oversight certified 99 complaint investigations, reviewed 346 classifications for complaint investigations, wrote findings for three complaint investigations and issued its first in-house systemic review on a fatal shooting, that of Anthony Chilcott by plainclothes Sheriff’s Office detectives, according to its 2021 annual report.

Presented Tuesday before the King County Council’s Law, Justice, Health and Human Services Committee, the report recaps a year that saw a new OLEO director confirmed, strengthened relationships with key stakeholders, improved staff morale, and saw no shortage of work accomplished.

Looking ahead, the office plans to exercise more of its statutory power, strengthen its policy and audit departments, conduct independent investigations, amplify the voices of the community, and build out its capacity.
