Rian Morgan Wins Gold Medal At Local ACT-SO Competition

Congratulations to Rian Morgan, the winner of the 2021 ACT-SO virtual competition. Morgan won in the Music: instrumental-classical category for her performance of Premier Solo by Eugene Bourdeau while playing the bassoon. As the local Gold Medal winner, Morgan will advance to the National ACT-SO competition July 6 – July 10.

Morgan is a junior at Mt. Rainier High School and plays with the Seattle Youth Symphony. She has also played with the Orchestra of Flight, Washington All-State Bands, and the Mt. Rainier High School Wind Ensemble.

In Morgan’s own words: “I switched from flute to bassoon, and I’ve been playing it for 3 years now. Switching instruments was one of my best decisions I’ve ever made in my ‘musical career’ so far. While I loved the flute, bassoon quickly became my favorite instrument because of its range, versatility, and its warm and rich tone. My bassoon has opened up a gateway to many opportunities.”
