Do You Think Seattle Is Benefiting From Hosting The World Cup?

Jahvani:
“I think Seattle has benefited from the World Cup. The city looks more lit up, whether it’s at nighttime or during the day. When I’m scrolling through social media, the city looks alive, and it looks better than ever. Man, the city looks happy, you know? I know we just won the Super Bowl, but we got the World Cup here too, and with all the people from out of the country and out of town, it’s just lovely. And then, just to see how the waterfront is, just packed full of people, to me, it definitely has benefited big time.”
Tim:
“Yes, I think it has been positive for the businesses, of course, because you get more traffic coming through. So, opportunity for businesses to have more people coming into their business. Yes, it’s been beneficial. The social level with Seattle is always a great place. Man, I love Seattle. I’m from California, so I love Seattle. I went to school at Washington State. The World Cup has added immensely to Seattle’s social scene as well.”
Jeann’e:
“I don’t think that Seattle is benefiting from it because of the way that the world sees us here in Seattle now.”
Shirley:
“I don’t care, I don’t even like soccer. But I will say that there are too many people here in Seattle now. I just came from downtown, and it’s crowded with thousands of people.”
Asia:
“I say yes and no, because I think that most people who are enjoying the World Cup are only downtown. They are patronizing the businesses that are downtown, and I feel like a lot of the businesses downtown don’t support everyone in the community. I can see if there were some things up this way in Capitol Hill that they could participate in, attend, or even know about. There’s no advertisement, really, about what all we have besides what’s going on downtown. Only what the city has to offer, and that is not what the businesses have to offer, even the ones that are downtown. I don’t think they’re advertising those either. I think they’re just advertising Seattle as a whole and their whole new waterfront.”
Jimaine:
“Yeah. It’s beneficial. Absolutely. The World Cup coming to Seattle has benefited immensely, lots of spaces activated. We haven’t had this type of network in here on this level in quite some time. Everything is going down at the pier, everything going down in the different communities, the way Juneteenth activated everything. It’s just been an amazing thing. And if you’re around to really witness it, I live downtown. So, I’m seeing all these fans, I’m interacting with them. We’re talking, I’m introducing them to American cuisines, and it’s an awesome thing. So, yeah.”
