If you have a daughter, granddaughter or niece and want to engage their imaginations, support them in their social-emotional development and be exposed to women in science, business, law, engineering, medicine and education – then the Seattle Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s GEMS answers the call.
The Dr. Jean L. Noble GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) is for young ladies in high school. Each year, the GEMS drive the topics that they want to know more about or discuss. The 2018-19 GEMS wanted to discuss growing up Black in the PNW & code-switching, navigating relationships, HBCUs, emotional self-care tips and their legal rights when confronted by the police.
The GEMS meet every 3rdSaturday from 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon beginning October 19. The program is free, as all expenses are paid by the members of Seattle Alumnae Chapter. 100% of the GEMS in last year’s program will be returning for 2019-20. Graduating seniors in the program, who qualify, receive priority consideration for the Delta’s Bertha Pitts Campbell Scholarship.
