A recent analysis by WalletHub has placed Seattle in the top five cities in the United States for celebrating the New Year, highlighting its vibrant atmosphere and festive offerings. The study evaluated 100 cities based on various criteria, including fireworks displays, culinary options, nightlife, affordability, and safety.
According to WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo, while many might expect New York City to lead the pack—thanks to its iconic ball drop in Times Square—Orlando, Florida, actually claimed the number one position. Lupo pointed out that Orlando’s appeal lies in its proximity to Disney World, a lively nightlife scene, and a high number of party supply stores.
Following Orlando, Las Vegas secured the second spot with its renowned entertainment options and bustling restaurant scene, while New York City came in third, maintaining its reputation as a classic New Year destination. Seattle, finishing fourth, narrowly surpassed Los Angeles, though Lupo noted that the city may have performed even better if not for its high costs associated with celebrating.
In terms of expenses, Seattle ranked a lowly 89th overall and was at the very bottom—100th—when it came to grooming costs, which includes prices for beauty services and haircuts. This could be a deterrent for some revelers looking to indulge in a night out.
Despite the financial hurdles, Seattle received high marks for its food and entertainment options, landing in sixth place for these categories. The city’s safety and accessibility were rated 30th, indicating that while there are enjoyable experiences to be had, some concerns remain.
One of Seattle’s standout features during the New Year celebrations is its impressive fireworks show. Last year, the display illuminated the Space Needle for an impressive 18 minutes, captivating both locals and visitors alike and adding to the city’s festive charm.
