Seattle LGBTQ Commission Seeks Candidates

The Seattle LGBTQ Commission seeks applications from interested candidates to fill several vacancies on the Commission. The Commission is a 16-member body that advises the Mayor, City Council, and City of Seattle departments on issues that affect LGBTQ communities throughout Seattle. Commissioners promote positive change by working with community groups and individuals to identify areas of concern, by making recommendations regarding policy and legislative changes, and by serving as liaisons between LGBTQ communities and city government.

Terms are for two-years and are subject to confirmation by the Mayor and City Council. Applicants must live or work in Seattle and be available for monthly meetings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month at City Hall in downtown Seattle.

The Commission was recently involved in the process to ban conversation therapy in Seattle, has provided city agencies with input regarding homelessness prevention, and has encouraged the creation of safe consumption sites in our city.

The Seattle LGBTQ Commission is committed to centering the voices, experiences and needs of historically disenfranchised individuals. The Commission hosts a variety of community education and outreach events throughout the year, such as the annual Pride Flag Raising event to mark the beginning of Pride Month. Additionally, we are developing a snapshot survey of LGBTQ folks in Seattle to gather critical data about the lived experiences of our community members.
