The Seattle Public Library celebrates Black History Month in February with two dramatic programs. Multimedia performance group Living Voices will perform “The Right to Dream: Share the Struggle” at 11 a.m. Fri. Feb 25, at the Beacon Hill Branch, located at 2821 Beacon Ave. S. Using video, recorded sound, and live performance, this program transports viewers back in time to recreate the coming of age of one African American during the 1950’s and 1960’s in Mississippi. Two actors commissioned by the Central District Forum for Arts and Ideas will perform “Harriet Goes to School: A Student’s Life After Brown v. Board” at 6 p.m. Fri. Feb. 25 at New Holly Gathering Hall, located at 7053 32nd Ave. S, near the New Holly Branch. Step into the world of seven-year-old Harriet, the first Black child to attend her North Carolina elementary school following the landmark 1954 Supreme Court decision that led to desegregation in public schools. These events are free to the public. For more information, contact Amy Twito, Library Program Coordinator at 206-615-1981.
