Seattle Public Library Offers Free Tax Help At 12 Locations Through Mid-April

The Seattle Public Library, in partnership with United Way of King County (UWKC) and AARP, is offering free, in-person tax preparation services at 12 library locations through mid-April. Trained volunteers will be available to answer tax-related questions and assist individuals with filing their personal tax returns. This free service is for individuals only and does not apply to business tax returns.

In 2024, the Library hosted 251 tax help sessions, assisting taxpayers in filing 4,514 returns. This year, drop-in tax help is available through UWKC at two library locations, while AARP is providing services at 10 additional locations, with a mix of drop-in and appointment-based assistance.

“This program provides a vital resource for community members who may otherwise struggle with tax preparation,” said a spokesperson for the Seattle Public Library. “We’re proud to continue offering these services and making tax filing more accessible to all.”

Tax help at the Central Library and South Park Branch is provided by UWKC and serves anyone who earned less than $80,000 in 2024. Drop-in help is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with the last client taken 30-45 minutes before the session ends. Spanish-language support is available upon request at the South Park Branch.

AARP tax help is available at 10 other Seattle Public Library locations, with both drop-in and appointment-based assistance. Appointments can be made at select locations through AARP’s Tax Aide program.

Most IRS tax forms, instructions, and publications are available online at www.irs.gov. Due to federal budget cuts, the IRS is unable to provide certain forms and instruction booklets to libraries. Taxpayers can request forms by mail through www.IRS.gov/orderforms or by calling 1-800-829-3676. Free black-and-white prints of tax forms can also be made at Seattle Public Library locations.
