Seattle Public Schools hosts Advanced Learning Forum September 22

Student nominations currently being taken for Advanced Learning programs for 2005 – 2006 Seattle Public Schools will host a Public Forum on Advanced Learning on September 22. The forum will provide updates for community members on the advanced learning work plan and application and testing timelines. In addition, the forum schedule will include an opportunity for forum participants to give input on the advanced learning programs through moderated discussion groups and a question and answer period. This forum is open to the public. Seattle Public Schools encourages families of Advanced Placement Program and Spectrum-eligible students, families interested in the advanced learning programs, community members, teachers, principals and other school or central staff members to attend. The forum is scheduled for 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Weds., Sept. 22 at the Mercer Middle School auditorium, 1600 South Columbian Way. It is also time to nominate students for Advanced Learning programs for 2005-2006. Nomination packets are available at school offices, Enrollment Service Centers and on the Advanced Learning Web site at seattleschools.org. Parents, community members, students, teachers, and other individuals may nominate students. Nominations for Seattle Public Schools students who are in first through seventh grade this school year are due Sept. 30. Nominations for current kindergarten and private school students are due Nov. 1. Nominating is simple – parents/guardians need to complete and submit a permission form. They should also work with their child’s teacher to complete a Teacher/Educator Input Form. Students nominated for advanced learning programs most likely work at an accelerated learning pace, perform at standards above grade level or thrive when presented with information and text that are complex and rigorous.
