Following a record-setting performance in the Redhawks’ final game before the holiday break, Seattle U’s Cameron Tyson, a 6’3” senior guard, has been honored as the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the game week concluding on Sunday, Dec. 24. This recognition is Tyson’s first for the season and the third in his accomplished career.

Tyson’s standout display included a season-high 33 points and eight rebounds, propelling Seattle U to a significant NET-ranked triumph of the season with a 79-73 overtime victory over Louisiana Tech on Dec. 20 in Seattle. Notably, Tyson surpassed Seattle U’s previous career three-pointer record of 239, held by Aaron Waite (1988-92).

By the end of the night, Tyson had secured four three-pointers, bringing his two-plus year career total as a Redhawk to an impressive 241. His perfection at the free-throw line, going 13-for-13, and scoring the crucial final points in each period added to his stellar performance. Although Seattle U led 34-29 at halftime against the 66th NET-ranked Bulldogs, LaTech turned the tables in the second half. However, Tyson’s clutch free throws pushed the game into overtime, where he contributed seven of the Redhawks’ 16 points.

Looking ahead, the Redhawks are gearing up for their next challenge, closing out non-conference play against UTEP on December 30 at the Don Haskins Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. Mountain Time, 5 p.m. Pacific.
