Congresswoman Maxine Waters of Los Angeles To Keynote Event Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) will keynote the National Black Law Students Association’s (NBLSA) Western Region Convention to take place this weekend at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Seattle. The event, which will take place Feb. 17 – 20, will feature a series of speakers, Moot Court and Mock Trial competitions, workshops and networking opportunities with members of the legal community. “Congresswoman Waters is dedicated to civil rights issues, having long-campaigned for affirmative action and policies promoting equality,” said Angela Rye, a third-year law student at Seattle U. and director of the NBLSA western region . The Seattle University School of Law is the host school for the event entitled “Striving to Achieve Political and Civil Equality through the Emphasis of Higher Education.” The events promises to be a powerful learning experience for everyone, as the Seattle University Law School has provided the necessary resources to make sure the convention is successful. “This convention will drive home the fact that higher education plays a pivotal role in achieving true diversity,” said Rye. “It also highlights to me how dedicated SU Law is to diversity.” In addition to the conference, the NBLSA’s will host an assembly at Zion Preparatory Academy on Friday, Feb. 18th, as the law students will share their experiences and inspire the students to live up to their potential and to pursuer their dreams.
