Should The Government Regulate Social Media?

Alvena

Off the top of my head, my questions are: What are they regulating? Why do they need to regulate it? What information are they afraid of getting out? Most people on these platforms share insights about their daily lives and opinions on social and political issues. I don’t recognize a major spread of top-secret government issues or security threats. Maybe there’s something I’m unaware of, but many people find these platforms to be a valuable source of income and community.

I think that the government has the right to protect us from certain things because I know that there’s a lot of things that people don’t know about social media; However, that platform Tik Tok and others provide an outlet for individuals to express themselves under freedom of speech. So therefore, I think that the platform is necessary, but at the same time it needs to be regulated within reason.

I believe that it could be a yes or a no answer. The government should be able to protect viewers from seeing certain things on social media, but I am aware that Tik Tok is potentially going to be banned, and I feel that is not okay because Tik Tok has taught me more things day-to-day than any other social media platform.

Brian

I can understand both sides, but overall it is hard to know the ins and outs of social media. Social media is a little out of control right now, and they are trying to find ways to make it safer for the nation, which is why I can see the government regulating some platforms to be okay.

Even though I might or might not like certain media, TikTok for example, I am against government regulation or interference unless it violates the rights of others.

Crystal

No, because I’m straight old school and not even understanding why? There are bigger problems to deal with than entertainment which is going to change again in the next 20 years or so.
