Three heroic rescue swimmers from the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) performed a daring rescue on Sunday afternoon, after a man swimming in Lake Union found himself in distress. The SFD was alerted to the situation when the man went underwater and failed to resurface.
According to a social media post by the SFD on X, the incident occurred near the 1000 block of Valley Street. The SFD immediately dispatched a team of three experienced rescue swimmers to the scene. After bravely diving into the water, they located the 30-year-old male and successfully brought him to shore.
Reports suggest that the man had jumped off a pedestrian bridge near the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) before encountering trouble in the water. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined.
Upon reaching the shore, emergency crews swiftly initiated life-saving measures before rushing the man to Harborview Medical Center. Fire officials have stated that the man is currently in critical condition.
In light of this incident, the SFD has issued a reminder to the public to exercise caution when swimming and to always choose designated areas with lifeguards present. Additionally, they strongly advise against consuming alcohol before entering the water, as it can impair judgment and increase the risk of accidents.
