Tacoma’s Lincoln Avenue Bridge To Close For Major Asphalt Repairs

A portion of Lincoln Avenue in Tacoma, including the Lincoln Avenue Bridge, will close Saturday, April 4, for major asphalt repairs, city officials announced.

The closure will run from Portland Avenue to Marc Avenue and is scheduled from 6 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m., according to the City of Tacoma’s Public Works Department.

During that time, the Lincoln Avenue Bridge will be fully closed to all vehicle traffic, and detours will be in place. Drivers traveling to destinations near the construction zone will need to approach from either Portland Avenue or Port of Tacoma Road, depending on which side of the Puyallup River they are heading.

While through traffic will be restricted, access to local businesses will remain open throughout the day.

The work is part of a major maintenance effort led by the city’s Street Operations Division and funded through the Tacoma Streets Initiative, a 10-year, $325 million voter-approved program that concluded at the end of 2025.

Officials said the April 4 closure marks the first phase of a two-part repair project. A second phase is planned for a future Saturday, with details to be announced.

Because asphalt work depends on weather conditions, the project may be rescheduled if necessary. Any updates will be shared on the city’s website, social media channels and through posted signage in the area.

Residents and business owners with questions about the closure can contact project supervisor Thomas Adams at tadams@tacoma.gov or (253) 591-5870.
