Teen In Renton Murder Cases Tried As Adult

A 14-year-old boy is being tried this week in the fatal shooting of a man outside a Renton convenience store during a drive-by shooting. In addition, the teen is also considered the prime suspect in a killing outside a Safeway store. The teen boy is being tried as an adult because of the serious nature of the crimes and prosecution has until Jan. 19 to decide if they will do so.

The teen suspect is not being identified because of his age. The boy waived his right to appear in juvenile court on Friday. The drive-by shooting was captured on surveillance camera. A motive for the attack was not known.

Renton police were called to the Circle Foods store, located in the 2000 block of Benson Road S., shortly before 5:45 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found the 54-year-old victim lying on a sidewalk and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police arrested Miller at a nearby apartment complex the following day.

A motive remains unclear. Investigators say they are not looking for any other suspects at this time. Police said investigators learned the alleged shooter was a passenger in a black SUV that had fled the scene after several bullets were fired.
