Two teenagers from Snohomish County have been charged with first-degree assault in connection with the stabbing of a 17-year-old girl in West Seattle. The victim, who was caring for her grandfather at the time of the attack, is currently hospitalized with severe injuries, and her family is seeking funds for cleanup and recovery efforts.
The incident occurred on July 5 in the Delridge neighborhood, where the suspects—a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl—were involved in the violent attack. Both teens appeared in court for probable cause hearings at the Children and Family Justice Center in Seattle on Wednesday, attended by their parents. During the hearings, a judge noted that both suspects posed “a serious threat to public safety.”
On Friday, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged the 17-year-old as an adult with first-degree assault, while the 15-year-old was also charged with the same offense. Both suspects are scheduled for arraignment on Monday, July 14, where they will enter pleas of guilty or not guilty.
Court documents reveal that the teens allegedly stabbed the victim 14 times, including six wounds to her face. Prosecutors indicated there is probable cause for an additional charge of second-degree attempted murder against the 15-year-old.
According to the victim’s sister, who goes by Goodwin, the injured teen managed to escape the attackers by running upstairs and locking the door behind her to protect her grandfather, who has limited mobility following surgery. Unfortunately, the victim collapsed soon after inside the house, rapidly losing blood, while their grandfather was only able to call for help.
The injured teen has been hospitalized since first responders arrived to save her life that night. Meanwhile, blood from the incident remains on the walls and floors of her grandfather’s home. To help cover the costs of professional cleaning services recommended by the Seattle Police Department, Goodwin and her family have started a GoFundMe campaign.
The Seattle Police Department arrested both teen suspects in Marysville on July 8. A judge has ordered them to be held in secure detention at King County’s youth detention facility. As the investigation continues, the judge mentioned the possibility of additional charges, with prosecutors having until Friday to file any new charges.
