With The Recent Number Of Airplane Incidents, Are You Concerned About Air Travel Right Now?

Anttimo:
“I definitely still feel safe traveling. I know that accidents happen. I especially feel safe if I see a Black pilot or a Black crew—my anxiety just goes down tremendously. I am really just looking for the pilot with the grill and the locs because I know he is going to look out for me. So, I am going to continue to fly because I know the skies are safe.”
Cayla:
“Currently, I do not feel comfortable with traveling due to the recent accidents. Although I know the flight crew is doing their best to keep everyone on the flight safe, there have been too many consecutive crashes that have occurred recently, which cause my fear.”
Jeff:
“I do feel safe traveling, but this hype does bring awareness to just how important security and safety are. We can’t have any lapses regarding safety. I am concerned about the president talking about pulling back on staffing and effort in this area, but I still feel safe.”
Lil Bit:
“Honestly, what I feel about air travel and everything that is going on—with Trump getting into office, now he wants to fire air traffic controllers. With government stuff going on, this is a way to distract Black folks because we travel. They might travel, but Black folks travel. I think this is a distraction—planes crashing, planes bumping into each other at SeaTac Airport. Stuff is brewing around the world, but I’m getting on an airplane.”
Marvin:
“I do feel safe traveling. It is a probability issue. The more I drive, the more risk I take on. The more I fly, the more risk I take on. I fly a lot, so I have to expect that the more I fly, the higher the probability that I may experience something catastrophic—hopefully not. So, you gotta go with your odds, or you live life in fear.”
Kameron:
“I feel comfortable for the most part regarding air travel. It has been a safe mode for a number of years. We have good practices in place, but what it really comes down to is the pilots. As long as they are competent and able to do what they need to do, that’s what’s really important. The governing bodies just set the regulations, but the pilots are the ones who actually make a difference. So, I pray for the pilots more than I pray for anything else. As long as they are of sound mind and do what they need to do, we should be able to travel with no problems.”
