The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle has partnered with the Consumer Action Network (CAN), a non-profit organization that promotes the concept that consumer voices must drive policy, planning and services, to address the financial health of the community.

Linda Taylor, Housing Director of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, is setting up a 6-month financial fitness program to help educate the public on financial awareness by teaching them the art of saving.

“The Urban League has partnered with the Consumer Action Network and what we are doing is taking the pulse of the financial health of everyone,” says Taylor. “Its basically about financial education, financial empowerment, and teaching people how to use technology tools to enhance their financial well-being as well as their families.”

The 5-step program pays participants up to $200 over the length of the program, with each step offering payment upon completion.

The first step consists of a paid 5 to 6 question survey that measures the participants financial acumen and commitment to the process and the survey.

Each level introduces different options and technologies that can help one strengthen their discipline to save money. The program also provides experts in the field of finance to teach and give guidance on the best possible ways to save money for the future and to help people protect themselves in the face of economic crisis.

According to Taylor, the recent economic crisis has shown us the importance of savings, regardless of your financial situation or how old you are.

“The most important aspect to this program is learning to save,” says Taylor. “You must save. With all that is going on, people losing incomes, the uncertainty of it all, it is important for the public to be prepared, so we are helping by providing much need information in financial competency.”

People interested in participating in the program should register online at

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ULMS-clients or call the Urban League at (206) 461-3792. Registration for the survey ends June 15, 2020.
