Seattle police apprehended a 17-year-old boy after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the West Seattle Bridge late Saturday night. The incident unfolded around 11 p.m. on October 11, when a patrol officer spotted a car speeding westbound on the bridge without its headlights on. Moments later, the vehicle collided with another car traveling in the same direction.
Inside the victim’s vehicle were a 45-year-old man and woman, both of whom sustained minor injuries. They received prompt medical attention from the Seattle Fire Department at the scene. In a hasty escape, the suspect fled the collision site in his car but soon crashed into a barrier at the Delridge Way Southwest off-ramp, rendering his vehicle inoperable.
After the crash, the occupants of the suspect’s vehicle attempted to flee on foot. However, they returned to the scene shortly afterward, where police were able to arrest the teenage driver on charges of hit-and-run and reckless driving.
Two passengers in the suspect’s car also suffered minor injuries and were treated by Seattle Fire Department personnel before being transported to the hospital for further evaluation. The young driver received additional citations for failing to provide proof of insurance and for having mismatched license plates and car registration.
Following the arrest, he was released into the custody of a family member at the Southwest Precinct. Meanwhile, the damaged vehicle involved in the accident was impounded by police for further investigation. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
