O’Dea 24, Eastside Catholic 20
O’Dea rallied from a 14-7 halftime deficit to edge Eastside Catholic 24-20 in a Metro League thriller Friday night. The Fighting Irish took control in the second half with 17 unanswered points, including a 77-yard touchdown run from Owen Brustkern and a 50-yard scoring burst by J’Shaun Wilson, who finished with 28 carries for 161 yards. Quarterback Hutton Leverett completed 9 passes for 85 yards, while Peyton Egan sealed the comeback with a late interception to stop Eastside’s final drive.
Eastside Catholic quarterback Luca Villasenor delivered an outstanding performance, completing 19 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns, distributing the ball to seven different receivers. The Crusaders struck early with scoring passes to Asa Thompson and Robert Ingram and added a late touchdown to Kato Lugolobi, but a missed extra point proved costly. Despite Villasenor’s poise and production, O’Dea’s second-half defensive adjustments and explosive ground game proved too much, keeping the Irish firmly in the Metro League title race.
