The defending state 3A basket champions, The Fighting Irish of O’Dea, needed overtime in order defeat Metro League rival Seattle Prep in their WIAA Boys 3A basketball quarterfinal game at the Tacoma Dome.
O’Dea trailed most of the game and got their first lead in the fourth quarter as Paolo Banchero made two free-throws to give the Fighting Irish a 49-47 lead. The two teams battled to a 53-53 tie at the end of regulation, and the Irish rallied behind the 8 points of Banchero in overtime to walk away with a 65-55 victory.
Banchero finished the game with 25 points, while John Christofilis chipped in 12 points to lead the Fighting Irish. Braeden Smith had 16 points, while Kyle Carlesimo scored 12 points to pace thePanthers.
