A man responsible for a 2020 mass shooting has been sentenced to prison. William Tolliver formerly pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Tolliver was sentenced to 48 months for second-degree manslaughter and 16 months for third-degree assault and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
The shooting took place along Third Avenue and Pine Street after a disrespectful Facebook post was sent out about a friend of Tolliver’s. There were three gunmen that opened fire. The suspects shot at least 24 rounds in six seconds. People close by on the streets were hit, including a nine-year-old boy shot in the femur and 50-year-old Tanya Jackson who was killed.
William Tolliver was sentenced on Friday. His friends, alleged gunmen Marquise Tolbert, was found not guilty of murder and first-degree assault back in September. The third suspected gunman Jamel Linonell Jackson, was sentenced to 16 months on Aug. 19, 2021. The group of men are not strangers to the system. All three men have criminal records with Tolliver and Tolbert having a combined 65 arrests.
Back in March, William Tolliver was released from jail on electronic home detention until his trial. He could not handle it. He was placed back in custody after he being charged with felony harassment. In addition to the sentence, a judge imposed a $500 victim penalty assessment and restitution that will be determined later. Tolliver must also register as a firearm offender.
“Mr. Tolliver was initially charged with murder,” the King County Prosecutor’s Office wrote in a statement. “In any case, there is never a guarantee of what will happen at a trial. This guilty plea considers the evidence and provides some measure of accountability.” William will serve his term concurrently. William Tolliver must also serve 18 months in community custody.
