The 5 Star Cougars 6U team advances to the Northwest Premier Junior Football League’s 6U championship game with a hard-fought 28-21 victory over the CD Panthers.
CD bolted out to a 7-0 lead, but 5 Star would strike right back and convert a two-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead early in the first half of the game.
CD would counter by scoring another touchdown and converting their own two-point conversion to take a 15-7 lead. 5 Star would respond once again with a long touchdown run, pulling within one point at 15-14.
The two teams battled back and forth into the second half, with 5 Star holding a slim one-point lead at 22-21 with time running down in the game.
5 Star would increase their lead to 28-21 after scoring a touchdown with under one minute left in the game. CD tried to score a last-minute touchdown to either win or tie the game, but 5 Star’s defense put forth a tremendous effort, smothering the Panthers’ running attack to secure the win and a spot in the championship game.
