A Star is BornBrittany Davidson, age 15, sophomore at Decatur High School in Federal Way is fulfilling her dreams. She has been competing in club gymnastics for eight years, and is on the road to National champion again this year. Last year, Brittany was 4th in State, 1st in Regional and the Western National champion for Level 9. The Western National meet was held here in Seattle at Qwest Stadium, where she received the Gold All-Around Medal in front of a local audience. Next month, she travels to Montana for the Regional meet. Then she travels to California for the Jr. Olympic Nationals meet. This year, Brittany has continued her successful journey. She is at Level 10, the highest level in club gymnastics, and has shown she is ready to defend her title as a National champion. Brittany’s goal use to be to score a 36 all-around, total possible points is 40. Already, this year she was scored an all-around of 37.075. She trains 5 days a week, 4-1/2 hours a day, and occasional Saturday workouts. Brittany’s commitment and dedication to this sport is an example to our Black kids of how far they can go if they just put their mind and heart into it and do not give up.Brittany is getting closer and closer to her dream. She has three beam skills that can be named after her. She will compete one of these skills at Nationals, and if she makes it, the skill will be called, “The Davidson”. This is huge, as it will be given a patent number under her name, and gymnasts all over the country, and at the Olympics will attempt to perform “The Davidson”. She is already guaranteed a full-ride scholarship to college. She wants to compete at the collegiate level, and possibly at the International level. It takes a “village” to support our children’s gift. Brittany’s mother states, “I truly believe every one of us have a gift. The test to life is finding what that gift is and putting everything you have into it, especially faith. Brittany has found her gift, and the sky is the limit. I have not always been able to afford it, but God can.” If you would like to sponsor Brittany, please contact Maurleen Davidson, her mother at 253 (951-5810) or maurkim3@hotmail.com and she can provide you with the details of the cost of a champion.
