Hydroplane Driver Brent Hall made history Sunday. Hall drove the GP-15 Pignataro Volkswagon boat in heat 2 at Seafair, finishing third in the heat. In doing so, Hall became the 2nd African American to compete at Seafair.
Legendary Hydroplane Driver Harold Mills, Hall’s mentor, is the only other African American to compete at Seafair. Mills, who competed at Seafair in 2014, is also the first African American hydroplane driver to win a national championship with the American Power Boat Racing Association.
“I am extremely honored to be second on any list that contains my mentor Harold Mills,” Hall said after the race. “[I’m] still learning and growing!”
