Cannabis Equity Summit Aims To Help 40 New Retail Store Owners Enter The Cannabis Industry

Selection of medical recreational cannabis at a legal retail store

The Washington State Department of Commerce has partnered with the Social Equity in Cannabis Technical Assistance Program to host the inaugural Cannabis Equity Summit on March 11 at Highline College in Des Moines, WA. The event aims to promote inclusion, transparency, and equity in an industry that has historically marginalized very specific communities. More than 40 retail licenses will be available through the social equity in cannabis initiative as the summit will focus on supporting early-stage entrepreneurs hoping to secure them. Prospective applicants only have 30 days to learn how.

“The Technical Assistance Mentorship Program is focused on incorporating equity into the Liquor Control Board licensing process,” said Alison Beason, Commerce’s Social Equity Task Force Representative. “The program will provide social equity program applicants with industry-specific business education, direct mentorship, and assistance developing business and finance plans while offering valuable insight and guidance navigating the myriad of complexities in establishing a retail cannabis business.”

The Cannabis Equity Summit is expected to reach its capacity of 300 people and will provide a platform for industry experts to mentor and provide tailored support to aspiring business owners. Attendees will have opportunities to learn about navigating the new Social Equity Portal, participate in a Q&A session with the Liquor and Cannabis Board licensing group, network with other entrepreneurs, and more. Interested attendees must register for the event online at www.socialequitywa.com.
