As gas prices have skyrocketed many are looking for alternatives. Electric cars and hybrids are on people’s minds. Just in time for the new charging station in Seattle. Local business, Seattle City Light, owns the property in the Morgan Junction neighborhood at 4118 Southwest Morgan Street. The property was formerly known as the Morgan Junction Substation but now will be a place to plug in your electric car.
City Light also proposes a new parking lot where the electric vehicle (EV) charging station will have eight EV chargers. The city is asking for community feedback about the project. Public feedback will be done via a survey. All responses are due by Friday, April 22, 2022.
Vehicle access will be from Fauntleroy Way SW.
Electric vehicle owners will be able to use the charging station. Drivers will need to pay a fee to charge. The fee is designed to pay for the electricity and the cost of building the station.
There is no known issue to prevent this project from moving ahead. The area is approximately 4,520 square feet and is zoned as Neighborhood Commercial. Currently, the site is vacant and flat.
City Light purchased the property in 1945 to construct a new substation, which became one of many 4-kilovolt (kV) substations throughout City Light’s service area.
The older 4kV substations were eventually phased out as the utility developed larger, more reliable substations. City Light states that it plans to spruce up the area. It will plant greenery and take down the chain link fence.
