The HEIR 10U team claimed the Northwest Premier Junior Football League’s 10U championship with a 30-0 victory over the 9U Gridiron team.
Running back CJ Ireland set the tone early as he scored on a 59-yard touchdown run on HEIR’s first play from scrimmage, giving them an 8-0 lead after a successful two-point kick, less than a minute into the game.
After the initial touchdown, Gridiron’s defense stiffened up and forced a turnover on downs. However, HEIR returned the favor by forcing their own turnover on downs, which led to another touchdown run by Ireland to give HEIR a 16-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
HEIR would increase their lead to 24-0 during the second quarter as quarterback Jayden Hernandez scored on a 55-yard touchdown run.
HEIR would round out their scoring barrage as Ireland found his way to paydirt with a 40-yard touchdown run to give HEIR a 30-0 lead heading into halftime.
During the second half, the teams locked into a defensive battle and ultimately ended the game without either team scoring for the remainder of the game.
Defensively, Gridiron’s Jermain Falefia and Peyton Taito recorded interceptions on the day, while Tariq Haliburton recorded an interception for HEIR.
Congratulations to HEIR for winning the Northwest Premier Junior Football League’s 2023 10U division championship.
