JetBlue Airways To Scale Back Operations In Seattle And Cease Miami Flights

JetBlue Airways is set to reduce its operations at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) as part of a broader network restructuring. By early September, the airline will halt all flights to Miami, consolidating its services in South Florida at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. In Seattle, transcontinental routes will transition from year-round to seasonal, with flights from Boston Logan (BOS) and New York John F. Kennedy (JFK) being suspended from winter 2025 through spring 2026.

JetBlue began its Miami service in February 2021, aiming to capitalize on the surge in domestic leisure travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, coinciding with a brief partnership with American Airlines. The initial offering included routes to Boston, Los Angeles, Newark, and New York JFK, with Hartford added in June 2021.

However, the airline has been scaling back its operations, with service reduced to just two routes—Boston and New York JFK—by July 2024. Data from OAG Schedules Analyser indicates that the JFK service was discontinued earlier this month, while flights to Boston will be suspended starting September 2.

As part of this operational adjustment, JetBlue will also pause service from Seattle to Boston and JFK for the winter season, effective October 25 and October 24, respectively. Currently, Boston is served twice daily, while JFK has one daily flight.

Additionally, JetBlue has removed several other routes from its schedule, including seasonal flights from San Juan to Cancun, Boston to Grenada, and Buffalo to West Palm Beach. The airline will also discontinue service between JFK and Manchester, New Hampshire, in September—one month earlier than previously scheduled.

These route reductions follow an internal memo from JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty, which indicated that the New York-based airline is unlikely to achieve profitability this year. To address this, the carrier plans to further cut capacity, particularly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while reevaluating the size and structure of its leadership team.

In the first quarter of 2025, JetBlue reported a net loss of $208 million, an improvement from a $716 million loss during the same period last year. The airline’s structural cost program in 2024 yielded $190 million in savings, and revenue initiatives surpassed expectations by $95 million, aided by preferred seating sales and other product enhancements.
