Tied for first place with Heir in the 8U division, the Benson Bruins with a 5-1 record would play a Jr Huskies team who is looking to move themselves to one of the top spots as far as seeding goes in the division. The Jr Huskies, who came into the game fresh off of a 27-7 win over Heir 8U last week, were looking to record back-to-back wins over teams that were ahead of them in the standings.
Benson was dominant last week against Heir 7U. The Bruins were led by quarterback Trey Thomas’ two touchdowns to Brayden Woods, Woods’ led all scorers with two receiving and one rushing touchdown. Silas Fuiava and Osa Fomai contributed one touchdown each as well resulting in a 33-0 win. With both Benson and Jr Huskies coming off games where they kept opponents under seven points and scoring 20 points or better in the process, fans and coaches for both sides expected nothing less than a tough but exciting battle between two very talented teams.
Looking to score early and often like they’re accustomed to doing, the Bruins have trouble establishing any type of rhythm against the Jr Huskies defense. Sticking with the fundamentals of tackling, the Jr Huskies were able to keep the Bruins from gaining any extra yards, and forced the Bruins into three-and-out possessions for a majority of the game.

Fueled by their defense executing their gameplan close to perfection, the Jr Huskies offense could not be stopped, as five different players recorded at least one rushing touchdown throughout the game. The Huskies’ Tyree Bellinger, Marvelous Green, and Cariz Altheimer’s ability to escape defenders and find their way into the endzone for rushing touchdowns gave them a 19-0 lead heading into halftime.
Facing a double-digit deficit, Benson showed some progress towards ending their scoring drought, but the Jr Huskies defense continued to refuse them access into the endzone by standing firm on the defensive line.
With their defense winning the battle up front from start to finish, the Jr Huskies’ would give the ball back to their offense quickly and often, which led to a second half scoring barrage. Savion Brown and Miles Dequier led the second half charge, as Dequir ran for a touchdown, and Brown threw a touchdown pass to Green and ran for another.
Scoring 26 points in the second half grew the Jr Huskies lead and once the final horn sounded they had beaten Benson 45-0. With the win, the Jr Huskies improve to 5-1 overall and moved into second place in the division ahead of Benson. Benson will face the Jr Huskies 7U team next week, and Jr Huskies will match up against the CD Panthers.
