Representative Kristine Reeves (D-Federal Way) has been elected Chair of the House Agriculture & Natural Resources (AgNR) Committee for the 2025-2026 legislative session. Her appointment by the House Democratic Caucus highlights her commitment to addressing the critical challenges facing Washington’s agricultural and natural resource sectors.
“I am deeply honored to have the confidence of my colleagues as we work together to steward our state’s agricultural legacy and protect our natural resources for future generations,” said Rep. Reeves. “Washington’s farms, forests, fisheries, and rural communities are at the heart of what makes our state unique. I look forward to collaborating with stakeholders to address the challenges and opportunities in these vital sectors.”
Reeves brings a unique combination of personal and professional experience to her new role. Raised in Moses Lake in Eastern Washington, she attended Washington State University (Go Cougs!) and later built her career in Western Washington. Reeves served as U.S. Senator Patty Murray’s Kitsap, Olympic, and South Puget Sound District Director, earning a reputation for bipartisan problem-solving and sustainable growth initiatives. She also held a leadership role at the Department of Natural Resources, further deepening her expertise in environmental and resource management.
Her background equips her to tackle key issues including natural resource preservation, climate resilience, water management, workforce and rural development, and equitable access to agricultural opportunities.
“Representative Reeves has demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision in advancing sustainable policies for Washington’s agricultural economy,” said a Democratic Caucus spokesperson. “Her ability to connect with diverse stakeholders and address complex challenges makes her a natural fit to lead this committee.”
The Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee is instrumental in shaping policies for Washington’s $81 billion agricultural economy while overseeing the stewardship of the state’s natural resources. As Chair, Reeves will lead efforts to ensure Washington remains a national leader in sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship, benefiting farms, forests, and fisheries across the state.
