Lacey Police Killed Suspect

Lacey police shot and killed a domestic violence suspect. The suspect had a fight with two officers and shot one in their bulletproof vest. A woman had taken her kids and fled. The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. on the 6600 block of Axis Street Southeast, according to the Lacey Police Department (LPD). Police said a woman fled to a neighbor’s house to call 911 after her husband assaulted her. 

After police arrived, they found probable cause during their investigation to arrest the suspect for domestic violence assault. Police made contact with the suspect at the front door of his home and tried to arrest him when a fight broke out on the porch, according to LPD. The suspect then pulled out a handgun and opened fire on the two officers, hitting one in his bulletproof vest. 

One officer was able to shoot back, hitting and killing the suspect, according to LPD. Officers attempted to give the suspect first aid, but he died at the scene, police said. The second officer sustained scrapes and bruises from the altercation, according to Lower.

All personnel from the Lacey Police Department have been removed from the investigation and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. The shooting will be investigated by the Capital Metro Independent Investigations team, which includes officers from other law enforcement departments and agencies from Tumwater, Olympia and Yelm.
