Ones To Watch – Ericka Pegues

Ericka Pegues has been a student at TAF Academy since 2007. Being in the pioneer class of TAFA she has hopes to leave a legacy. Developed from a quiet 6th grader to the now confident and socially open senior, she lives her life by a quote written by Gandhi that a teacher once shared; “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Pegues aspires to play an active role in whatever community she enters, and be the change. Peuges has a passion for science. She currently an intern at Fred Hutchinson Caner Research Center where she works alongside scientists hoping to one day have her own lab that develops treatments and cures for cancers in countries all over the world. Her awards include state/national gold in the Science & Medicine category for the NAACP ACT-SO and 1st place at the WA State Science Fair (2014) and recently published in a science journal with her Hutch mentor.  Her latest project is educating under-served communities about the national bone marrow registry through educational forums.
