RISE 10U 25, Benson 9U 0
In a highly anticipated regular season finale, Rise 10U delivered a dominant 25–0 win over the previously undefeated Benson Bruins 9U team on Saturday. Both squads entered the matchup with perfect 6–0 records in the Washington Youth Football League (WYFL), but it was Rise who made the bigger statement with a balanced, mistake-free performance.
After a scoreless first quarter, Rise broke the game open in the second behind a strong showing from quarterback Liam Bartlett, who went 6-for-6 passing for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Naniholo Talakai opened the scoring with a 7-yard rushing touchdown, and after a Benson fumble, Bartlett connected with Micah Wu-Mallory for a 17-yard score to make it 13–0 at the break. Benson moved the ball at times behind Bless Austin-Curry and JB Falatusi, but five total fumbles and penalties consistently stalled drives.
Rise kept the pressure on in the second half. Talakai broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter, and later in the fourth, Major Robinson capped the scoring with a 4-yard run following a 32-yard reception by Jason Doelman Jr. Defensively, Rise was sharp all game, holding Benson under 110 total yards while recovering five fumbles.
With the win, Rise finishes the regular season at 7–0, earning the top spot in the WYFL 10U division. Benson falls to 6–1 but remains a dangerous playoff contender.
Federal Way Hawks 19, Benson 10U 6
After two consecutive losses, the 10U Federal Way Hawks bounced back in a big way Saturday with a 19–6 victory over the previously surging Benson Bruins, snapping their opponent’s five-game win streak in the process. Fueled by a powerful ground game and key defensive stops, Federal Way reasserted itself as a contender in the division with playoffs just around the corner.
Running back Anthony Langston led the offensive charge with 113 rushing yards on nine carries, including a 21-yard touchdown that opened the scoring. LRodney Josiah Carter was a game-changer on both sides of the ball — recovering two fumbles and hauling in a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Messiah Nettles, who also rushed for 53 yards on 13 carries. The Hawks tacked on one more score in the fourth quarter, when Kobe Pankey broke free for a 67-yard touchdown run that sealed the win.
Benson’s offense struggled with turnovers and negative-yardage plays, but Malachi Williams Jr. remained a bright spot, rushing 20 times for 78 yards and scoring the Bruins’ lone touchdown late in the game. Isley Pua added 48 yards on the ground, and Matthias Fuiava made two defensive stops to help keep Benson in the fight.
With the win, Federal Way improves to 5–2, regaining momentum just in time for the postseason. Benson falls to 5–2 as well but remains firmly in the playoff mix. If these two teams cross paths again in the playoffs, fans can expect another intense and physical showdown.
