PEACE CORPS HOSTS COMMUNITY EVENT IN GREENLAKE

Ever dreamed of helping others while living and working overseas? Whether you are 21 or 71, the Peace Corps offers you that opportunity. Seattle residents can find out more about the Peace Corps at a community information meeting on Wed., Nov. 17 at the Greenlake Community Center (7201 East Greenlake Drive North), from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The Peace Corps has hundreds of exciting opportunities in the fields of agriculture, business, education, health, the environment and more. Volunteers serve for 27 months and receive free transportation to and from their assignment, a living allowance, medical and dental care, 24 vacation days each year, and three months of training in their country of service. When they complete their assignment, volunteers receive a $6,075 readjustment allowance to help them get settled when they return home. Currently, more than 7,500 volunteers serve in 71 countries around the world. Since the Peace Corps’ founding by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, more than 171,000 Americans have served in the Peace Corps.
