The Renton Police Department (RPD) has apprehended a 46-year-old man linked to a tragic triple homicide that occurred on Saturday night. Authorities discovered the deceased bodies of two women, aged 46 and 28, along with a 9-year-old girl, who had all been shot inside an apartment located near Kirkland Avenue Northeast and Northeast 18th Street around 7:30 p.m., according to an official statement from the RPD.
Following a search of the residence, analysis of the suspect’s electronic devices, and interviews with witnesses, law enforcement arrested the man Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in South Seattle without any resistance. Investigators have determined that the shooting is connected to domestic violence, as the suspect had a relationship with the 46-year-old victim.
In the RPD statement, it was noted that two additional individuals were present in the apartment during the incident but managed to escape. While the motives behind the shooting remain unclear, police revealed that the suspect had been with the victims earlier that evening.
“It was a very long night for our detectives. They worked tirelessly to process and serve search warrants, analyze the suspect’s electronics, and interview witnesses and family members to locate this individual,” said Meeghan Black, Communications Manager for the Renton Police Department.
“We do not yet know what was said, what kind of argument occurred, or what triggered such a horrific event,” she added.
The Renton police confirmed that the suspect was romantically involved with the 46-year-old victim and had prior acquaintance with the two younger victims, though the nature of those relationships remains unspecified. Investigators believe the incident was an act of targeted domestic violence and assert that there is no ongoing threat to the public following this weekend’s events.
