Last Friday, the Seattle School Board, by a vote of 6-1, approved a new contract for Dr. Brent Jones to be the new superintendent of Seattle Public Schools. Superintendent Jones has served as interim superintendent for the district since May 2021. His contract takes effect immediately.
A thoughtful and charismatic leader, Superintendent Jones has more than 20 years of experience in education and government agencies including six years at Seattle Public Schools. His expertise includes strategic planning, community engagement, change management, and human resources.
Jones’ contract will last until June 30, 2024, and his annual base salary will be $335,000 plus benefits.
Board member Leslie Harris was the lone no vote.
Jones received his doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Texas at Austin. He started his career teaching adult education in 1993 and worked in various management and human resource positions at community colleges in Texas and Washington. He then served as chief of human resources at Seattle Colleges and talent officer for the Kent School District.
