Seattle Monorail Project Announces Call to Artists

Seeks Temporary Art Installations(Seattle, WA, February 28, 2005) – The Seattle Monorail Project (SMP) has an opportunity for artists to create temporary art installations on properties throughout the city of Seattle that are being acquired for the Monorail Green Line.Construction work is set to begin later this year. Until then, the acquired properties will be transformed into visually interesting spaces showcasing the work of Washington artists. The works will be sited depending on the construction schedule. Works may be rotated often in areas with high pedestrian traffic. In keeping with the temporary nature of this Project, and the open spaces to be transformed, SMP encourages innovation and experimentation in the artwork presented, including the use of materials generally not used in permanent public art works, such as paper, plastic, and electronic media. In addition, salvage material from SMP-acquired properties may be available for artists to use in their works. SMP will provide selected artists with a stipend of $1,500 – $3,000 per installation for fees and materials, depending on size, complexity and duration.
