Yes, we have totally gotten away form that practice.
People are so afraid of being sued or arrested. Either for being an abuser or child molester. Time and events changes most things. It’s more close knit, at least for my family it is.

I don’t believe so. Today I attended the 9th Grade report card Garfield High School. The event was designed to have a proactive positive impact on the lives and grades of the 9th grade class. I was joined by a few dozen other volunteers who also believe in the “Village” concept. Although there were many alumni at the event, there were others who did not have a “dog in the fight” per se and still put in the time. This is just one example that I can express that shows the “Village” concept is alive and well.

Yes but I believe our current youth 18-25 are very aware and eager to get more involved in activism and politics. The problem is our generation didn’t step up when we should have. A lot of our parents didn’t have the tools or know how to navigate through the issues. It took me years to get out of the slave mentality and now that I am becoming more clear in life I want to give back and help our youth in becoming positive and influential in our communities and in the world. Myself and my peers need to learn how to love each other, forgive and support each other so we can lead by example. Sometimes you have to let the house burn down so you can build a new one.

I grew up on a block that my grandfather owned several properties plus the corner store. Everyone knew all the children. When sneaking a cigarette at the park (my cousins made me) the entire block knew before we step foot on my grandmother’s porch. We do not live in that type of village any more. Only time I feel that we are a community is at church with church activities or sporting/art events with our children. So the answer is yes and no…the village has changed but the village is there we just have to seek it.

Yes we have…parents have also dropped the ball. As a child we didnt disrespect adults, we didnt talk back to our parents. We were disciplined. Now days, the level of disrespect these children have for their elders is sickening.. The disrespect they have for the teachers is sickening.. They have no morals. No values and no self-respect. These kids now days just live. We cant be a village anymore because the world has changed drastically and people are scared of getting sued or going to jail for just trying to do the right thing…

“I believe that it does take a community but our community has been divided. There were plenty of issues from the past that many people have not yet overcome, so it weakened today’s community. We have the system that ruined the foundation of families, the government that raised pricing on housing which caused everyone to move out of our homes we grew up in and cut budgets for schooling, so it’s hard for people to progress. At the same time there are plenty of resources that can help our communities.”
