
GasBuddy predicts the yearly national average in 2023 will be 50 cents lower than in 2022 at $3.49 a gallon. GasBuddy says a $4 national average is not out of the question “ahead of and during the summer driving season.” Average gas prices in Washington have dropped as the new year started while Seattle’s average price rose compared to last week.
The national average price today is $3.23 a gallon, according to AAA. Nationally, the average price of gas rose 12.3 cents per gallon over the last week, bringing the average to $3.17 — 22.5 cents lower than a month ago and 9.5 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy.
GasBuddy surveyed 775 gas stations in Seattle and found that the cost of gas has risen 2.4 cents per gallon in the last week bringing the average to $4.08 a gallon. The current prices are 45.4 cents lower than a month ago, but 6.3 cents higher than a year ago.
The cheapest gas available in Seattle on Sunday was $2.99 a gallon, while the most expensive was $5.09, according to GasBuddy. Statewide, gas prices fell 4.5 cents since last week to lower Washington’s average to $3.74 per gallon.
Tacoma gas prices went up 1.4 cents in comparison to last week with the average being $3.63 per gallon. Yakima prices went down nearly 10 cents compared to last week with the new average being $3.57, down 9.4 cents.
The national average price of diesel has fallen 1.4 cents in the last week and stands at $4.67 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. The lowest price for gas today, Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, in the Harrisburg area is $3.29 a gallon. While that price sounds pretty good compared to the high of more than $5 a gallon we paid in June 2022, it may not last long.
