In observance of Black History Month, the Kent Black Action Commission (KBAC) will host their third Annual Black Legislative Day in Olympia on Fri., Feb. 20.
According to KBAC, this trip has been organized for the purpose of affording students and all concerned citizens an opportunity to interact with their State Representatives in the hallowed halls of the state capital. One of KBAC’s primary missions is to encourage civic engagement throughout the community.
“This trip to Olympia is a perfect opportunity for us to role model civic engagement and to educate our young people on how their State government functions,” said KBAC in a press release announcing the event.
KBAC has scheduled a group talk with State Senator Joe Fain and Representative Tina Orwall. The will be a tour of Legislative building including a picture taking in the congressional chamber.
Buses for the event are scheduled to leave Kent at 7:30 a.m. and return to Kent Meridian High School at 3:15 p.m.
