Metro League Teams Sweep Boys 3A Quarterfinals

Seattle’s Metro League showed why it is the best league in the state for boys basketball as Metro League teams – Eastside Catholic, O’Dea, Rainer Beach and Garfield – claimed all four semifinal spots in the WIAA Boys 3A basketball tournament on Thurs. at the Tacoma Dome.

Garfield, which played in the first game of the day, advanced to the semifinals with a 74-53 win over Marysville-Pilchuck. Tari Eason led the way for the Bulldogs with 26 points.

Eastside Catholic’s JT Tuimoloau scored 25 points, while Nolan Hickman pitched in 16 points to lead the Crusaders to a 76-52 victory over Wilson.

Rainier Beach went on a 14-3 run late in the fourth quarter to knock off Kamiakin 58-53. John Hart scored 22 points, while Z’Marin “Ziggy” Williams scored 15 points to lead the Vikings.

In the final 3A quarterfinal game of the day, O’Dea’s Paolo Banchero scored 25 points as the Fighting Irish defeated Metro League rival Seattle Prep 65-55 in overtime.
