UW Medical Centers is reporting that a patient who died at Harborview Medical Center last Wednesday has presumptively tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to a statement released by UW Medical Centers, the patient was admitted to Harborview on Feb. 24 and may have exposed some staff members working in the intensive care unit where the patient had been treated.
“We have received notice from Public Health – Seattle & King County that a presumptive positive coronavirus case has been detected in a patient who was admitted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Feb. 24 and died Feb. 26, 2020. This patient, with underlying medical conditions, had been transferred to Harborview from Life Care Center of Kirkland,” read the statement.
“In coordination with Public Health – Seattle & King County, we have determined that some staff may have been exposed while working in an intensive care unit where the patient had been treated,” the statement continued. “We don’t believe that other patients were potentially exposed.”
According to UW Medical Centers, potentially exposed staff have been contacted by their Employee Health team and are being monitored and screened daily.
