On Tues., leaders from the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic (OBCC) unveiled the location of their upcoming clinic site in Seattle’s Central District. The new facility, set to be situated at the corner of 18th Ave. S. and S. Jackson St., aims to provide comprehensive healthcare services, including mental and behavioral health support, nutrition, medical check-ups, labs, violence and injury prevention assistance, and addiction resources—services that are unique to OBCC and not found elsewhere.
OBCC has been a staple in the Central District since the 1970s and the trusted medical home for generations of families. Services at the new location will include robust mental and behavioral health resources, primary medical care, lactation, nutrition, acute and well-child medical visits, labs, violence and injury prevention support and addiction related resources, which are unique to OBCC and not offered elsewhere.
Dr. Shaquita Bell, OBCC’s senior medical director, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “The Central District neighborhood is OBCC’s original home, and we are overjoyed to share this news. This location is in the heart of the Central District and allows us to continue caring for our patients and families in the neighborhood, as we have for over 50 years.”
The new OBCC Central District location is strategically located less than one mile away from the original E. Yesler Way site, which was temporarily closed in 2022 for building repairs. This new clinic will stand alongside OBCC Othello’s current location in South Seattle, providing another trusted option for quality healthcare services.
Seattle Children’s, OBCC leaders and staff, community partners and patient families engaged in a thoughtful and inclusive visioning process while the location on E. Yesler Way was temporarily closed for repairs to reimagine what services would best serve the community. The new location was selected after Seattle Children’s assessed over a dozen potential sites in the area. It will house services identified by the community and offer compassionate care with dignity closer to home, in addition to OBCC’s Othello clinic located in the Rainer Valley neighborhood.
Hospital officials believe that the new clinic location not only reflects OBCC’s commitment to its Central District roots but also underscores its dedication to providing essential healthcare services to the diverse communities it serves. As the facility begins construction, it heralds a bright future for accessible, inclusive, and compassionate healthcare in Seattle’s Central District.
